NASC entered into a service agreement with the Governance Lab (GovLab) at Daayitwa, Lalitpur to collaborate on the sixth round of the Local Government Survey (LGS). The survey is part of an ongoing research collaboration led by Yale University and the London School of Economics, in partnership with GovLab and NASC. This initiative builds on the shared vision of both organizations to advance evidence-informed public policy in Nepal. The sixth round of the LGS focused on documenting planned and ongoing infrastructure projects, related expenditures, and assessing the implementation capacity of local governments. Additionally, this round introduced an innovative module examining the beliefs of locally elected representatives regarding institutional structures and state effectiveness in Nepal. The survey encompassed Mayors/Chairpersons, Deputy Mayors/Vice Chairpersons, Chief Administrative Officers of all
local governments, and around 50 percent of Ward Chairpersons nationwide. In this assignment, NASC worked closely with GovLab to facilitate survey implementation by appointing focal points for communication, assisting with stakeholder engagement, supporting literature reviews, and aiding in dissemination of findings. This collaboration strengthened NASC’s role in advancing rigorous, large-scale evidence generation for public policy and governance in Nepal.
The major objectives of this collaboration were to:
1. Support the design and implementation of the sixth round of the Local Government Survey in Nepal.
2. Facilitate stakeholder engagement, communication, and outreach with local government officials.
3. Contribute to data analysis, reporting, and dissemination of findings to inform governance and policy actions.
