The 90th edition of the NASC Discussion Series was organized by the Centre for Research and Development on the topic “Rethinking governance in times of turmoil: What Nepal can learn from South Asia's protest waves”.
The discussion centered on the evolving dynamics of civic engagement in South Asia and the shifting relationship between state institutions and citizens. The session featured Dr. Hindu Sanskriti Karki as the speaker, who provided an analytical overview of historical and contemporary protest movements across the region, including the recent youth-led demonstrations in Nepal. Dr. Karki highlighted how citizen mobilization has often served as a catalyst for institutional reform, inclusiveness, and greater accountability in public decision-making.
During the interactive segment, participants raised several questions and concerns, particularly relating to how public institutions can effectively engage with youth perspectives, respond to crisis situations, and rebuild public trust. Dr. Karki addressed the queries by emphasizing the importance of sustained dialogue, transparent policy processes, and responsiveness to evolving social expectations.
Speaking at the event, Executive Director of NASC, Mr. Ram Sharan Pudashaini, underscored the relevance of such discussions in the present context. He noted that platforms like the NASC Discussion Series are vital not only for deepening understanding but also for fostering informed discourse across the public sector.
